In the Community

United Way
Siemens ITS partners with United Way to bring people together and solve old problems in new ways. By joining together, we provide innovative, long-term approaches to problems that will lessen need in the future. United Way supports a network of nonprofit organizations that work together to form a much-needed safety net in our community.
Intern Program

Our college interns gain valuable professional and technical experience through our internships. Students are exposed to the opportunities and challenges of a professional and /or technical working situation which improves their employability after they have completed their education. The work experiences the students gain have made serious candidates for prospective employers. Many of our employees’ children have participated in the program resulting in money for college and ultimately many job offers. The Siemens ITS Internship Program is an advantageous solution for both student and Siemens ITS.

March of Dimes
Each year Siemens participates in fundraising events for the March of Dimes, including the annual March of Dimes walk. Since 1977 the employees of Siemens have been involved in supporting this worthy cause which provides funding for research and support for premature babies. This year Siemens employees participated in various fund raising events and had 65 walkers raising a total of $13,284.38. This contributes to the total amount of $101,000 raised since 1992.  This years festivities included a Valentine’s Day flower sale, a St Patrick’s Day drawing, a commemorative Selena memorabilia raffle, and Mother’s Day flower sale. Employees sell candy, gum and baked goods year round to raise money. The team also holds fundraising lunches throughout the year selling sausage wraps and hot dog meals. Siemens vendors join in on the community spirit by donating money and raffle items, as well as drinks for the walkers. In return the vendors are included on the team shirts. On Walk day Siemens employees enjoy a family day on Auditorium Shores under the Siemens tent and are accompanied by friends and family. Walkers solicit sponsors from friends, neighbors, and co-workers. Some sponsors promise a dollar amount up front while others encourage the walkers by promising an amount based on distance. One of the Walk team members is Stella Boes. A local celebrity, Stella is a senior citizen well known in the Austin area who says she is 39+. Stella used to walk as an individual, but after an invitation to join the Siemens team for lunch one year at the Walk she has been a part of the team ever since. Our top walkers this year were Ernie Chinchilla (one of our managers in charge of South and Latin America) with a total of $3,910.00, Silvia Seelig with a total of $1,835.00, and Stella Boes with a total of $1,115.00. In Texas alone, there are 7,021 babies born in an average week.  Of those, 814 are born premature, 217 are born with a birth defect and 42 babies will die before their first birthday.  March of Dimes educates moms-to-be and funds research that will change these statistics in our area and across the nation. Siemens is proud to be a small part of the effort to help save these precious miracles and to support the heroic efforts of the March of Dimes.
