Iteris, Inc. (NYSE Amex: ITI), a leader in the traffic management market that focuses on the application and development of advanced technologies, and Siemens Industry, Inc., an industry leader in providing intelligent transportation solutions, today announced an integration of Siemens Traffic Solutions SITRAFFIC® Sphere, a new advanced transportation controller, and Iteris’ Vantage video detection system.
The direct interface between the Sphere controller and Vantage video detection system through a high-speed Ethernet interface, simplifies the hardware and installation requirements of detection and controller systems in the roadside cabinets which house the traffic control equipment, saving cities and agencies both time and money when implementing detector-based traffic control. The integration of Iteris’ video in the Siemens Sphere ATC controller is accomplished through a combination of technologies. Siemens Sphere ATC Ethernet capability, coupled with programming features integrated in the local controller software that runs on the Sphere ATC, allow for Iteris’ video system to connect directly to the controller unit through Iteris’ EdgeConnect™ module. The direct connection of video to the controller unit eliminates the need for adapter cards in the cabinet.
A demonstration of the integration of Iteris’ video detection system with the Sphere Controller will be included in the “Exploration in Integration” event at the upcoming ITS America Annual Meeting, May 3-5, 2010, in Houston, Texas. This event will highlight advanced intelligent transportation system products working harmoniously together for traffic control. The demonstration includes transmission of Iteris video detection data through the Sphere ATC from the Iteris booth (207) communicating via wireless connection to the TACTICS Advanced Transportation Management System in the Siemens booth (701), creating a simulation of on-street environments. In addition, the demonstration includes transmission of the video display visible through the hyperlink feature in TACTICS.
“I am pleased to have collaborated with Siemens on this very beneficial effort for the end users. It provides an “easy-to-use” communication path that was not available to them before,” stated Mr. Abbas Mohaddes, president and chief executive officer of Iteris. “I believe that this interface creates opportunities to integrate Iteris and Siemens systems with other new technology architectures where network communications between field devices and traffic operation centers have been established.”
“The ability to simplify traffic management is paramount to improving our nation’s infrastructure,” added, Christy Peebles, General Manager, Siemens Traffic Solutions. “Combining forces of industry leaders such as Siemens and Iteris aids in the advancement of the traffic industry by arming agencies with the tools they need to mitigate congestion.”
