NextEdit is an application for creating, modifying, and maintaining database parameters of traffic controllers and ramp metersfor advanced traffic management. NextEdit runs within an internet browser to provide the capability to run the application from anywhere on the internet. Typical internet security permissions can be applied to limit access to the application to only approved users. The main application of NextEdit is, as the name suggests, editing the parameters of fielddevices so those settings can be remotely downloaded to a field device. The NextEdit “master” system database maintains a history of changes to the controller database, so that “roll-back” of the controller data to previous versions is possible.
This “master” system database can store all of the controller databases in the entire system (city, county, etc.). This can provide the capability to correct errors or inadvertent modification to critical parameters, such as minimum green times, offsets, and/or pedestrian clearance times. A number of features have been built into NextEdit specifically for management of NextPhase controller databases and software.
This includes the ability to retrieve NextPhase status logs and firmware version numbers from field controllers on demand and via a recurring schedule. In addition, a new version of the NextPhase firmware can be downloaded from NextEdit automatically. This significantly reduces the down-time of a signal for software upgrade – cutting the process from 45-60 minutes per controller to just 5-10 minutes.
